The Domaine des Lauzons *** Limans 04300 Forcalquier fr

Your holiday amidst the wonderful colours of Provence

The Domaine des Lauzons can be found between the Mediterranean and the Alpine peaks, on the edge of the Luberon just a few kilometres away from the district’s subprefecture of Forcalquier.
Nestling in a valley planted with oak trees, junipers, thyme and lavender, the 148-acre domain benefits not only from the Provençal sun but also from the coolness of the night, as it is at an altitude of 500m.

The 3-star campsite has 150 pitches and offers furnished tents and caravans, wooden chalets and mobile homes. A Provençal mas is the main hub of activity along with a large round swimming pool surrounded by flowers and a waterslide pool for playing and letting off steam.

At the Lauzons, you are in Forcalquier country, in the Mountains of Lure and Contadour. This is Provence, where nature and farming sit side by side, where grazing land alternates with beautiful gentle lavender-covered hills among which are nestled many magnificent villages. There are so many destinations for rambling or cycle rides.

For example, you can admire Les Mourres, a rocky landscape which covers an area of some 100m, and the highest rocks are over 20m tall. The Lure Mountain is very popular with ramblers and it is often used for aerial sports such as gliding, paragliding, hang-gliding, etc. Gliders have been known to hover up to 10,000m altitude from here.

You will also enjoy wandering around Forcalquier itself – a village that is rich in history, culture and activities. Its ancient citadel once sat on top of a conical plateau (listed as a natural heritage site) and the site offers wonderful panoramic views over the surrounding landscapes. Here is where the Roman-Byzantine style chapel of Notre-Dame de Provence was built.

Other suggested visits to discover the region include: Manosque, town of the writer Jean Giono, with beautiful fortified gates, Digne-les-Bains, the Chateau at Sauvan, often called the “Trianon of Provence” and one of the few examples of classical art in Provence, and last but not least, you must visit the local food-growers and Provençal markets.
