Les Sources de Caudalie*****
Straight to the Source
This autumn, Les Sources de Caudalie, a charming privately owned luxury hotel just south of Bordeaux, invites guests to immerse themselves in the delights of the grape harvest. The hotel is set deep in the family’s Grand Cru vineyard, Smith Haut Lafitte, where Château Smith Haut Lafitte’s 2009 vintage was awarded the prestigious rating of 100 out of 100 by internationally acclaimed wine critic Robert Parker. This is the perfect place to discover all there is to know about wine. Established in 1999, the concept behind Les Sources de Caudalie is the "French Paradox," discovered over 20 years ago: a study showing that the seemingly indulgent French diet and lifestyle, particularly in southwest France, is actually conducive to good health. Les Sources de Caudalie lives by the rhythm of the harvest in September and October each year. The hotel delights in sharing this lifestyle with its guests, with in-depth tours of the vineyards and the opportunity to sample a day in the life of a winemaker. Pruning shears in hand, guests can uncover the secrets of creating a Grand Cru with a master wine-maker, visiting the vineyards and the Chateau for tastings.
Fully experiencing l’art de vivre à la Bordelaise (Bordeaux lifestyle), guests can choose to enjoy a unique harvest picnic from Michelin starred Chef Nicholas Masse, or discover the virtues of grape-seed treatments in the pioneering Caudalie Vinotherapie Spa. There is also the option of tasting classes and Michelin-starred meals, making the perfect combination for a wine-based weekend.
Amid vineyards and forests, only 20 minutes from Bordeaux center, the architect Yves Collet created original contemporary buildings that fit into the surroundings and were built from recycled local materials.Les Sources de Caudalie owes its success over the past ten years to its core values: well-being, generosity, authenticity, high-quality service, and sensitivity. The owners have created a universe where everything is devoted to nature, taste and the senses.
The 40 rooms and 9 suites are named and decorated in keeping with different facets of the Aquitaine region. The décor of the five cottages is also centered on the region's rich, varied culture as reflected in paintings, antiques, and warm-coloured fabrics.
Chef Nicolas Masse: 2 restaurants, La Grand’Vigne and La Table du Lavoir
Inspired by 18th-century ornamental greenhouses, the restaurant La Grand'Vigne invites you to discover an authentic and generous cuisine that changes with the season. La Grand'Vigne is in a refined setting overlooking a small lake with swans, and features a small terrace on which to enjoy meals, weather permitting. The decor and the 18th-century fireplace that dominates the dining room recall the various shades of ripening red wine grapes, creating a warm ambiance for a romantic dinner or a business meeting in a private room.
La Table du Lavoir serves delicious, unique bistro-style food with the finest seasonal products. In the 19th century, winegrower's wives would come here to use a washhouse that has since been rebuilt stone by stone. The roof structure was built with 18th-century beams recovered from cellars at Château Laffite-Rothschild, and the glass door can be opened on beautiful days to enjoy meals on the covered terrace. Meat roasting in the huge period fireplace releases delicious aromas while clients read menus written on antique laundry beaters. The mismatched cutlery, purchased by weight, sits atop traditional and antique tablecloths.Discover La Tour de la dégustation, the bar Le French Paradox, and the 16,000-bottle cellar.

Vinotherapy: Caudalie spa
Located in Les Sources de Caudalie, Caudalie’s Vinotherapie® Spa offers a program of exclusive treatments in an environment of rare beauty.
The refined atmosphere of the treatment rooms, the blend of wood and stone, and the size of the building, reminiscent of an old tobacco kiln were all designed to harmonize with the landscape of the vineyards and give the relaxation lounges a distinctive style.
Unique treatments combine the virtues of natural hot spring water drawn from 540 meters beneath the earth - rich in minerals and oligo-elements - with the most recent scientific discoveries of the benefits of the grape and the grapevine.
