A spectacular transformation project on the Ile de la Cité by 2040 is presented to the public at the Conciergerie, on the edge of the Seine, as part of an exhibition held until April 17, 2017.

The excitement was palpable among the first visitors of the exhibition, fascinated by this time-consuming exercise in the discovery of "L'Ile monument" in a futuristic version which will make the most of the glass to dress the secular stones. It is there, on this islet in the shape of almond laid in the middle of the Seine, that was born Paris, then Lutetia, more than 2000 years ago ...

While the Île de la Cité, home to Notre Dame, has not been the object of any major renovation since the great works of Baron Haussmann in the 19th century, it is preparing to make a breakthrough in the 21st century. Under the gothic vaults of the Salle des Gens d'Armes in the Conciergerie, the solemnity of the premises offers an unparalleled setting for the luminous panels, some animated, which project the Ile de la Cité in 2040. A leap into the future for The historic heart of Paris, completely redesigned under the pencil of the architect Dominique Perrault.

It is still only proposals, but the backlit aerial views of a 360 ° model and the videos already make it possible to imagine the quayside of the Ile de la Cité redesigned as a pedestrian promenade, or the bridge of l 'Archbishop also surrendered to pedestrians to reach the Ile Saint-Louis. As a result of this major project, the Seine will be invested by new floating platforms hosting swimming pools, cafes, workshops ...

An augmented reality app to live the Ile de la Cité in its futuristic version

The parvis de Notre Dame will also offer a facelift that promises to unveil the archaeological crypt of the cathedral under a glass floor. A new landing-place opposite the Quai de Montebello will welcome visitors arriving by boat from the Seine. As for the Cité metro station, it could be inspired by the Louvre-Rivoli station in the manner of an exhibition gallery, and illuminated by a skylight ...

So many invitations to anticipate a City Island revisited by the yardstick of new technologies and urban signage of the future. To discover on the website "Mission Ile de la Cité" or, better, on site during the exhibition at the Conciergerie for the lucky ones who can make the trip.

After the visit, you only have to download the free application available on the AppStore and Google Play: it unveils the virtual model of the island, and allows to navigate augmented reality on the different sites such as They will appear in 2040. On the very places that saw the birth of Paris, it is already tomorrow ...
