2013's major events

Below is a list of France's recurring events for 2013, as well as some special celebrations organised outside of the capital region this year.

Throughout France

Visit the French museums after hours for a whole new perspective on their collections.

Rendez-vous aux jardins (Rendez-vous in the Gardens).
June 1 and 2, 2013.
Guided visits, exhibits, demonstrations of expertise and gardening workshops await you again this year. Highlighted in 2013: a commemoration of André Le Nôtre's 400th birthday (1613-1700), which led to this year's theme, "Le jardin et ses créateurs" (The Garden and Its Designers).

La Nuit des Etoiles (The Night of the Stars).
August 9 and 10, 2013.
Organised by the French Astronomy Association, the Nuit des Etoiles will allow dreamers young and old to (re)discover the wonders of star-gazing...

Les Journées européennes du Patrimoine (European Heritage Days).
September 14 and 15, 2013.
In honour of its 30th edition, the theme of this year's Journées européennes du Patrimoine is "1913-2013, cent ans de protection" (One Hundred Years of Protection). Explore famous sites, hidden treasures and private venues, which open their doors exceptionally for this event.

Don't hesitate to refer to the Days' national program for all the details; a number of workshops, special happenings and other exciting visits are organised during this event, which has become a firm French favourite.

Each region celebrates culture and heritage in its own way...

Marseille Provence, Capitale européenne de la culture (European Capital of Culture).
Throughout 2013.
Marseille and its region unveil their spirited cultural heritage in 2013. Take part in festivals, exhibitions and unprecedented inaugurations during this succession of events that highlights Marseille and Provence's extremely rich heritage.

Festival Normandie Impressionniste (Normandy Impressionist Festival).
From April 27 to September 29, 2013.
Focusing on water and, more largely, on the Impressionist movement, Norman cities and villages invite you to indulge in the region's particular cultural heritage through special events and exhibits. Rendez-vous by the waterfront!

Le Voyage à Nantes (A Journey to Nantes).
From June 28 to September 2, 2013.
Rediscover Nantes from East to West with an 8,5 km-long urban circuit best explored in 30 stages. As you visit vegetable patches, parks, gardens and other green spaces, partake in a veritable green adventure, fitting as Nantes was declared "European Green Capital" of 2013.

La Nuit Blanche à Paris (The Paris All-nighter).
October 5, 2013.
The upcoming edition promises to be, once again, an unforgettable experience for the thousands of night owls who take to the streets of the Capital.

October 11, 2013 to January 12, 2014.
A tribute to Lille's full calendar of contemporary festivities, celebrate with the "Happy Birthday" exhibit at the Perrotin Gallery.
