    Château of Auvers

    Dive into impressionism.

Built in the 17th century for an Italian banker from Marie de Medici’s entourage, the château d’Auvers-sur-Oise is a beautiful classical building. It was virtually derelict in the early 1980s, but has since found its splendour again after being restored by the Conseil Général of the Val-d’Oise in 1987.

A special show, entitled ‘Journey into the time of the impressionists’ was created in 1994.
This audiovisual exhibition allows the spectator to dive into daily life at the end of the 19th century.
A concert bar, a Haussmann apartment or Parisian street are recreated and 500 paintings are analysed and explained.
At the end of the visit, you can see a film on the place of impressionism in art history.
