Rendez-vous at Oceanopolis – Marine Science Discovery Park Port de Plaisance du Moulin Blanc 29210 Brest fr

Located in far west Brittany, Brest presents... a world tour! A tour of all Earth’s oceans, aboard its very own ship: Oceanopolis. Immerse yourself in the underwater world and discover the seas in a one-of-a-kind interpretation centre, unique in Europe.

One 3 hour visit to explore the three marine pavilions:

  • Polar
  • Tropical
  • Temperate

...where you can observe 10,000 different creatures among 1000 species!

The Polar Pavilion

In the Polar Pavilion, Oceanopolis leads you through both the Arctic and Antarctic at once. Discover the largest colony of penguins on a real ice field! Three aquariums house king crabs, and impressive starfish. What’s more, a spectacular film “Antarctica” filmed in Adélie Land shows the life of these animals in their natural habitat.

The Tropical Pavilion

From the cold seas to the warn waters of the south, there is only one pavilion separating you from a tropical paradise with waters of 20˚C (68˚F) and higher! Tanks of 1600m3 filled with sharks and colourful fish; not to mention the children's area "Red Sea" (Mer Rouge) with all its coral just waiting to be explored.

The Temperate Pavilion

Here, return to the Brittany coastline, a temperate marine ecosystem, characterised by its tides, currents and waves. Learn about daily life at the aquarium (Pollock, gurnard, starfish) from a diver, before watching him feed some seals.

Some Brittany wildlife will also be described and shown in its natural setting: langoustines in their burrows, huge bass in the great rock falls (rock face), rays, and other turbot and lobster in the depths of the Iroise Sea.
