Rendez-Vous in Paray-Le-Monial 71600 Paray-le-Monial fr

Set in the heart of Romanesque Burgundy, Paray-le-Monial attracts thousands of visitors every year. Known for its Basilica, a masterpiece of twelfth-century Cluniac art, the fame of the City of the Sacred Heart extends around the world. In the 17th century, Christ appeared three times to a young nun from the convent of the Visitation, Marguerite-Marie Alacoque, and bared his heart to her. She was given the task of spreading his message to the world: “This is the heart which has so loved mankind”. Pilgrims came here to rediscover in the Sacred Heart the meaning of their own lives and for a powerful spiritual experience. The chapels at this holy site of pilgrimage hold relics of the saint and her spiritual director, saint Claude La Colombière. The collections in the Musée du Hiéron relate two millennia of history of Christianity.
