The Marmottan Monet museum is organizing, from March 10 - July 3, 2016, the exposition Art and the Child: Masterpieces from French Painting. From private collections and prestigious museums, French and
international, nearly a hundred works by artists such Le Nain, Champaigne, Fragonard, Chardin, Greuze, Corot, Millet, Manet, Monet, Morisot, Renoir, Cézanne, Matisse, and Picasso compose a previously unseen tableau.
Through a rare selection of paintings, the path retraces the evolution of the importance of the child in the 15th century to the 20th century and considers the influence of childhood drawings on the avant garde
of the last century.
An invitation to discover in a new light works like Child with a Teetotum, by Chardin, Feeding the Young and The Knitting Lesson by Millet, The Clarion by Eva Gonzalès, The Little Violet Seller by Pelez, The Promenade at Argenteuil by Monet, Eugène Manet and His Daughter Julie by Berthe Morisot, The Children by Martial Caillebotte, The Lesson by Renoir, The Ball by Vallotton, The Portrait of Pierre by Matisse and The Painter and Child by Picasso.
