Father Christmas couldn’t miss out on the resort town of Besançon! The capital of the department of Franche-Comté holds a Children’s Christmas Village each year in the Place de la Révolution. A short distance away, the Place Pasteur provides a different kind of entertainment. A well-kept secret, the Artisan village will allow you to browse locally made handicrafts, wooden toys and jewellery; ideal for Christmas gifts! Over 30 wooden chalets will provide you with a firsthand glance at some of the artisans at work as they practice a precise yet disappearing art.

Beyond the bustling streets of the centre and a few hundred yards from the outskirts of town; lie the foothills of the majestic Vosges mountains. Overlooked by the mighty Lion of Belfort, visitors can admire the festive lights whilst taking in the markets in the Old Town. A true voyage of flavour, with chocolate, wine, foie gras and oysters all on offer to tantalise your taste buds!
Montbéliard, the village of lights
November 23 until December 24
The scintillating arches and facades of the village provide a magnificent backdrop for a spectacularly unique Christmas market. During the Advent period, the town shows off its traditions more than ever, putting on a monthly display of fairy-tale magic. 150 artisans occupy the many ornately decorated wooden chalets which fill the town. Artisans from all over France come to display their produce at the Monbiliard Christmas market, a magical experience centered around the Saint-Martin Temple.
