The Fête de la Gastronomie, September 22nd, 2012
Since 2011, France has celebrated its gastronomy with passion and style, and this year is no exception.
The first day autumn this year will be marked by the 2nd annual Fête de la Gastronomie, a country-wide festive celebration of French cuisine and its listing on UNESCO's world heritage list. Each edition of the festival will embrace a new theme around which to center its many events.
Last year's theme was "Our Earth," recognizing all the produce that is brought together in the dishes served. This year, the public decided on a choice of themes. The 2012 theme chosen by voters is: "French country cooking, tradition and creation."
Over 6000 events were organized last year in the inaugural Fête de la Gastronomie, and expectations are similarly high for this year's festivities. Come the 22nd of September, with the theme having been already chosen, chefs, restaurateurs and the broader public will head to the streets loaded with their dishes, recipes and menus or simply just their personal cutlery, as citizens and travelers all throughout France come together to truly enjoy the wonders of French gastronomy.
As the center piece of this wonderful festival, chefs and restaurants will be creating menus for the public to taste. You can even exchange recipe ideas and discover new ways to approach cooking through discussions with chefs on the day. On top of all that, you will also find opportunities to taste and learn more about the art of pairing wine with your dishes, an often exacting art. The chefs and restaurateurs, however, will be more than excited to share their ideas and opinions to ensure you get the most out of every bite...or sip!
Mark it on your calendar and remember to head to the streets of France with family and friends on the 22nd of September, 2012, to join in and celebrate the rich diversity of French gastronomy.
Bon appétit !
