"Soufflot, an highlighted architect"

An exhibition at the Panthéon, in Paris


The third centenary of the birth of Jacques -Germain Soufflot (1713-1780), which Ministry of Culture has included among the national 2013 celebrations, is an opportunity for the Centre des Monuments Nationaux (CMN) to return to this major architect of the Light century, whose masterpiece, St. Genevieve cathedral, now "Pantheon" is one of the major monuments of the City of Light.

Honoring Soufflot

While a major restoration campaign is underway at the Pantheon, Alexandre Gady, curator of the exhibition presents Jacques-Germain Soufflot and his creative ambitions by combining scientific rigor and accessibility to a wide audience. The major figure of French architecture of the eighteenth century and brought to light, showing the richness of his work, which is not limited to the Pantheon. The exhibition follows a double advantage, chronological and theme-oriented, to inform the creation of the architect and intellectual issues.

An eclectic exhibition

Nearly 150 exhibits are presented: paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints, rare books , art objects , models, from major French institutions and ans private collections : in addition to CMN itself include the Louvre, the Palace of Versailles, the Carnavalet Museum, the National Archives, the National Library of France, Lyon Gadagne Museum, the Archaeological Museum of Rouen ...

A legendary landmark

On the occasion of this exhibition , the Pantheon itself is staged, from the sketch of Rondelet to Soufflot grave itself in the crypt, to complete the tour and demonstration.

    October 1st to March 31st from 10:00 to 18:00 (Ticket office closes 45 minutes before)

  • Full rate : 7,50 €
  • Reduced rate: € 4.50
  • Special rate for tourism professionals and groups ( minimum 20 people ) : € 6.50
  • Free entrance for -26 years

The exhibition ticket allows you to visit the monument (nave and crypt)
