Throughout the year, Greek Villa Kérylos takes us on a “Voyage around the Ancient Mediterranean” with an exhibition of illustrations of ancient Mediterranean cities in its Antiques Gallery. The illustrations are drawn by Jean-Claude Golvin, architect and archaeologist.

The exhibition pays homage to the master-builders of antiquity, the people whose talent and ingenuity went into designing the great port cities of the Mediterranean. It also pays tribute to Théodore Reinach, who put his archaeological skills to use in dreaming up a villa inspired entirely by ancient Greece: Villa Kérylos.

Jean-Claude Golvin follows in the same learned tradition as the villa’s founder. He started out by studying architecture. Attracted by antiquity, he began a thesis on Roman amphitheatres. He then joined the Office of Ancient Architecture, followed by an exciting ten years in Egypt where he directed the Franco-Egyptian Research Centre of the Temples of Karnak. He is now research director at the French national centre for scientific
research (CNRS).
