As part of the Marseille-Provence Capital of Culture, Marseille’s acting troupe the Theatre du Centaure is recreating the migration journey of men and animals, bringing back the century-old tradition of shepherds moving their flocks among Provencal pastures. This unique event, welcoming the participation of anyone interested, brings together people and animals from all over Europe to create a shared artistic experience, which will be photographed & video streamed from above to create an incredible spectacle. As the group migrates towards the big city, they plan to revel nightly at their campsites, bringing along special guests like poets and astrophysicists, to tell stories by the campfire.

The world record was made in Beaumont-de-Lomagne, a town located near Toulouse. A participant managed to peel 31,150 kg of white and purple garlic of Lomagne in a mere 30 minutes.

Marathon du Medoc

Not your typical run, this marathon takes place annually in the famous Medoc wine region near Bordeaux, encouraging participants to run in costume, and stop for glasses of wine and plates of foie gras at chateaux along their route. 2013 will mark its 29th year, when it will follow the theme of “Science Fiction.”

Since it started in 1961, this festival has become the biggest gathering of puppeteers in the world. Taking place every two years, 133 puppet companies from 28 different countries attracted 150,000 visitors in 2011. For the 10 days of the festival, the entire city is transformed into a colorful and lively showcase with performances in all kinds of venues: halls, gymnasiums, streets and courtyards. The festival embraces all forms of puppet art, from the traditional to the post-modern, from shadows to Japanese bunraku, from the miniature creation to the giant.
