Since spring 2010, Normandy has been hosting one of France's biggest cultural events, Normandy Impressionism.

Picture picnics in hay-scented fields and languid afternoons spent in colorful gardens... Accordion music accompanying leisurely boat rides down the Seine, dancing and heated debates fueled by wine and absinthe in riverside guinguettes... Monet, Renoir and Degas would have felt right at home!

Normandy has gained a reputation as the spiritual home of impressionism and continues to live up to its name hosting some of the biggest international impressionist exhibitions. Monet, who is considered to be the father of impressionism, lived in the area and produced some of the most famous impressionist works of all time.

In 2013, six major exhibitions bring guests back to the 19th century with the artists who made Normandy the birthplace of Impressionism. Here are the region's must-sees...
