The Invalides is one of the most majestic achievements of Louis XIV, crowned by the Dome des Invalides, which is decorated with 550,000 sheets of gold leaf. It houses the tomb of the Emperor Napoleon I and is home to the largest museum of military history in the world, with collections extending from medieval times to the end of the Second World War.

A tour of the site takes between 1½ and 2 hours.
