Visit Vaison-la-Romaine in Provence vaison-la-romaine fr

Located in Upper Vaucluse, near the Rhône River and several major cities, Vaison-la-Romaine has a privileged location between the Alps and the Mediterranean Sea.

At the foot of Mont Ventoux (the "Giant of Provence" {1912m}), and enjoying a Mediterranean climate, the city extends across 2700 acres in the heart of a generous and flourishing natural environment, offering a wonderful quality of life.

Surrounded by 7 hills (same as Rome), Vaison-la-Romaine is crossed by the Ouvèze waters. A tributary of the Rhone, and nearly 85 km long, most of the river flows at very low levels, and is not navigable.

But the Ouvèze River is capable of terrific damage, as was witnessed by the catastrophic flood of September 22, 1992.
