Bonifato Forest and the Figarella River
It's not only for hiking! The mountains and forests can also be a giant playground for children and adults alike. The Bonifato Forest, located about 20 km (~12.5 miles) from Calvi, is a great example; the long forest road, the winding Figarella river, small river pools where you can jump in and cool off... Everything you could ask for and more, awaits you in the great forest.
How to get there:
- Allow 30 minutes for driving time, and a little more for walking!
- Exit towards Calvi-Ile-Rousse, Bastia - Head towards the Calvi Ste Catherine Airport (right at the roundabout) - Continue straight (remember to ignore the exit that goes to Galeria), then the road shifts slightly to the right, which is the direction to take.
- After reaching the parking lot of the Auberge de la Forêt (paid parking in season), take the forest path behind the inn.
- Finally, find a quiet place. The area is so magical that it has become quite popular, and it's first come, first served. So make sure to get there early!
