Chartres en lumières light show

Twenty-four illuminated sites throughout the city, 7 days a week and 6 months a year, from April to October: here are a few words about the Chartres en lumière event! This is one of the largest heritage lighting operations in the world. The 2020 edition has been delayed, and will take place from September to December, due to the health crisis.

Chartres en lumière lights up again in 2020! Despite the health context that threatened the cancellation of the event, Chartres en lumière will take place every evening this year from September to December.

The Festival of Light 2020 is, however, canceled. But, check out a preview below of this year's program!

Immerse yourself in a magical world and discover the essential sites of the city of Chartres in another light! For its 17th edition, the breathtaking night show provides great surprises every evening between nightfall and 1 a.m.

Scenographies will dress the emblematic places of the city in light, in a dedicated sound environment—this year, no less than 24 sites in the heart of the historic city in the Loire Valley will put on their best bright ensembles for dazzling entertainment.

The 2020 edition promises two new scenographies.

A 4-minute sound and light installation at Saint-Pierre church will stage the evolution of light projected by the sun and then the moon on the building's facades throughout the day. Significant work has been dedicated to highlighting the architectural details of this Gothic monument.

On the Saint-André collegiate church, one of the most prestigious medieval buildings in the city, five animated images representing scenes from life in medieval times will be projected. This animation intends to celebrate the auspicious period that the city knew in the Middle Ages.

The Museum of Fine Arts, the royal portal of the cathedral, the Sainte-Foy chapel and the Chartres theater will also host scenographies and illuminations among other animations.
