Exhibition: ‘Picasso and the Spanish Masters’ at the Carrières de Lumières, Les Baux-de-Provence

This new exhibition, on until 6th January 2019, retraces a century of Spanish painting in an immersive digital format.

The warrior power of Guernica, the emerging cubism of the Demoiselles d'Avignon and the graphic design of the Portrait of Dora Maar take on a whole new dimension on the huge limestone surfaces of the Carrières de Lumières in Les Baux-de-Provence.

This is an exceptional art experience, made possible by dynamic projections and musical accompaniment, often trademarks of exhibitions held in these old Alpilles quarries.

The exhibition comes alive with thousands of digitised works

The visual journey begins with Goya's portraits and country scenes and continues with the gardens of Spain, a theme dear to Spanish modernist Santiago Rusinol. The seaside landscapes of the impressionist Joaquin Sorolla and the portraits of Zuloaga complete the first part of the exhibition, dedicated to Spanish masters.

The second part offers a panorama of the creative richness of Picasso’s work. From cubism to the blue and pink periods, and from mythological figures to portraits of women, this vast exhibition space is the perfect setting to admire The Woman with the Fan, The Boy with the Pipe and The Joy of Living. The multimedia enhancement makes this exhibition a must-see at the foot of the village of Les Baux-de-Provence.
