Exhibition in the Vosges: Prism - Lalique crystal meets contemporary art

The Lalique Museum in Wingen-sur-Moder in the Vosges mountains is hosting “Prism”, an Exhibition of 39 crystal artworks by contemporary artists, a superb spotlight on the savoire-faire of the famous flagship of French glassworks.

Yves Klein, Rembrandt Bugatti, Zaha Hadid, Anish Kapoor... In total, there are 39 extraordinary artworks by seven contemporary artists. The exhibition illustrates the links between the house of Lalique and art, as well as demonstrating traditional methods of expertise and craftsmanship. Many of the pieces exhibited were made using an age-old technique known as lost wax, a process perfected by René Lalique in his glass work.

Visitors will discover reinterpretations in crystal of The Victory of Samothrace, the famous winged marble sculpture which resides in the Louvre Museum Paris, as well as interpretations of iconic works by Yves Klein and Rembrandt Bugatti.

Expo Prisme Musée Lalique Klein

The exhibition includes pieces from collaborations between the House of Lalique and artists, such as Terry Rodgers’ interpretation of René Lalique’s iconic Bacchantes vase. There is also a series of sculptures exploring the cycle of life by Damien Hirst, cutting edge crystal bowls by architect Zaha Hadid and Untitled, a monumental piece by Anish Kapoor featuring crystals that are 1.3 m long and weigh 20 kg.

Wingen-sur-Moder is where René Lalique established his glassworks in 1921. The unique museum designed by internationally renowned French architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte, includes some 650 works created by Lalique and his successors including jewellery, drawings, perfume bottles, art deco glass and tableware objets.
