“Under the Sea - Beyond the Image” – an exhibition in Bordeaux

As we wait for the opening of its permanent collection, Bordeaux’s Musée Mer Marine presents “Under the Sea - Beyond the Image” until 30 April 2019 – a National Geographic exhibition never before seen in France.

The idea is to have visitors diving into the oceans, discovering the inaccessible wonders of the seabed and the extraordinary diversity of wildlife living on and under the sea through the work of two star photographers from the National Geographic Society. The new Musée Mer Marine stands in the Bassins à Flot area of Bordeaux, one of the city’s cultural and architectural hotspots.

In the first room open to the public, and until the official opening of the museum in spring 2019, Paul Nicklen and David Doubilet are taking visitors into the emotion of the images and beyond, into the harmonious relationship that we as humans must maintain with our natural environment.

Discovering the fragile beauty of the oceans

The first photographer has travelled the world’s seas for 40 years; the second is from Canada’s Far North, a specialist and lover of these extreme Arctic landscapes.
