The Vignobles & Découvertes label aims to provide quality services and visits catering to wine tourism. The label appeals to a customer base that appreciates the world of wine without necessarily being connoisseurs, and offers a range of quality services: accommodation, cultural sites, leisure activities, cellar tours, restaurants, exploration of natural spaces, events and more.
Eight destinations in Loire Valley have been awarded the label: Val de Loire, Amboise - Val de Loire, Chenonceau - Vallée du Loir - Chinon, Bourgueil, Azay - Saumur, Val de Loire - Vallée du Layon - Muscadet Loire Océan - Angers Loire Valley.
Destination: Chinon, Bourgueil, Azay
The Loire Valley is famous the world over for its history, châteaux and wines. Since 2000, the Loire Valley has been included in the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites as a “Living cultural landscape”.
The “Chinon, Bourgueil, Azay” destination is situated between Tours and Saumur, at the heart of the Loire-Anjou-Touraine regional natural park, whose landscapes have been fashioned since time immemorial by man and his expertise.
Bounded by major tourist gateways (the Abbey of Fontevraud to the west, the châteaux de Langeais and Villandry to the east, and the towns of Richelieu and Sainte-Maure-de-Touraine to the south), the destination covers four appellations (Bourgueil, Chinon, Saint Nicolas de Bourgueil and Touraine Azay-le-Rideau).
The “Chinon, Bourgueil, Azay” wine tourism destination offers a rich selection of some forty partner cellars open to tourists and twenty or so accommodation options, along with a choice of a dozen restaurants serving traditional cuisine as well as set menus suggesting wine pairing.
Visitors will be welcomed by the tourist offices of Pays de Chinon, Pays de Bourgueil, Pays d’Azay le Rideau and Pays de Richelieu.
In the region, they will discover key sites such as the Château d’Azay-le-Rideau and Royal Fortress of Chinon, and will be able to enjoy a number of activities linked to wine and events that highlight the local know-how.
