Eight destinations in Loire Valley have been awarded the label: Val de Loire, Amboise - Val de Loire, Chenonceau - Vallée du Loir - Chinon, Bourgueil, Azay - Saumur, Val de Loire - Vallée du Layon - Muscadet Loire Océan - Angers Loire Valley.
Destination: Muscadet Loire Océan
Under the influence of the Loire, the Lac de Grand-Lieu, the sea and the subterranean rocks, Muscadet expresses the variety of the Loire-Atlantique regions. The Muscadet wine-growing area extends over almost 22,300 acres and encompasses 70 districts.
There are four AOC appellations: Muscadet, Muscadet Sèvre et Maine, Muscadet Coteaux de la Loire and Muscadet Côtes de Grandlieu, which benefit from the variety and all the riches of the surrounding countryside.
Wine growers, hoteliers, restaurateurs, tourist sites and leisure service providers, all these players bring their vineyards to life. The “Muscadet Loire Océan” destination offers a selection of 31 cellars where the wine producers take pleasure in telling the history of their estates and letting you sample their wines. Twelve restaurants are dedicated to serving wines from the Muscadet region, offering a flavoursome choice.
Visitors can also continue the tasting experience with a visit to the OH LA L.A. Quelle aventure! Sites that offer high-quality tours for all ages include: the Musée du Vignoble Nantais, the magnificent Château de Clisson, and theChâteau d’Oudon overlooking the Loire.
Cycling is also a wonderful way to discover this region: Le Vignoble à Vélo is a 107-km network through the vines. The circuit is divided into five loops that pass through towns and countryside. The Loire à Vélo itinerary allows you to take in the Ancenis hillsides, following the Loire as your guide. Hiking and canoeing along the Sèvre Nantaise are also extremely popular activities at the heart of the Muscadet wine-growing region.
