Accommodation on the island of Réunion is sufficiently diversified to enable visitors to stay in a high-quality, à la carte property.
Hotels can be located easily and quickly, with the majority located in towns along the coast. Over 50 are classified in line with French standards, including two 5-star properties and eleven with a 4-star rating.
Bed & Breakfasts and tables d’hôtes are numerous, and include members of the Gîtes de France network. Located in 16 Créole villages, these properties form part of a network which contributes to the promotion and recognition of local populations and the cultural identity of the island in harmony with its pristine environment and biodiversity.
Hiking enthusiasts and visitors who enjoy outdoor pursuits will have the option of staying in stopover or hiking gîtes, located in idyllic, peaceful locations close to hiking paths.
These more basic options are generally based around dormitory accommodation (with shared bathroom facilities) or double rooms with private bathrooms, and include the provision of sheets and blankets. These gîtes are an ideal solution for hikers or outdoor pursuit enthusiasts who need to rest and eat after a long day’s walking.
Another alternative is a seasonal rental property: rural gîtes, part of the Gîtes de France network, are particularly popular for one-week stays for families, and often take the form of detached houses close to the owner’s own property; apartments, furnished houses and bedrooms, many of which are members of the Clévacances network, offer holidays synonymous with simplicity.
With a choice of accommodation options available, there’s something for everyone on Réunion, enabling visitors to relax and experience the authentic Creole way of life.
