50th Anniversary of the Overwater Bungalow
Tahiti Tourisme is celebrating 50 years of the overwater bungalow. The first overwater bungalows were built by the famed “Bali Hai Boys” on the islands of Moorea and Raiatea in 1967. Although replicated across the world, The Islands of Tahiti remains the ultimate go to destination to enjoy a luxurious overwater bungalow stay. Many resorts including Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora and Sofitel Moorea Ia Ora Beach Resort will be offering special 50th Anniversary Packages for guests.
The Brando’s Beachcomber Café to Undergo Makeover
The Brando will launch the reconfiguration and extension program of the Beachcomber Café, one of its dining venues, between January 11 and June 10, 2018. When Beachcomber Café reopens, guests will enjoy the addition of a Teppanyaki table as well as a larger indoor space, and a pergola in front of the restaurant.
The Taputapuatea marae named a UNESCO World Heritage site A major, long-term project became a reality on Sunday, July 9th in Cracow, Poland, with the official recognition of the Taputapuatea marae (sacred site) on the island of Raiatea as a UNESCO World Heritage site. This important designation is a source of great pride for the Polynesian people. The World Heritage label bestowed upon the Taputapuatea marae will aide in attracting visitors to Raiatea looking for history and a rich cultural experience. The marae is an ancient sacred site where ceremonies were performed prior to the arrival of European missionaries, and where Polynesian ancestors arranged hundreds of stones which they believed to hold Mana, a source of power and spiritual strength. The Taputapuatea marae is the first cultural site in a French overseas area to be recognized by UNESCO.
New Product Relaunch: Haumana Cruises
Haumana Cruises relaunched on June 2017. Haumana means “Spirit of Peace” in Tahitian. As part of its relaunch, Haumana is offering low season rates specially for its July and August cruise departures, starting from €1,500 per person in the vessel’s Ninamu cabin (double occupancy). In addition, Haumana is offering a further 10% off these rates for honeymoons and wedding anniversaries that can be accumulated with the introductory offer. The revitalised, intimate Haumana vessel features 12 cabins, including one suite, with a maximum capacity of 27 passengers (including children). Experiences include a three day, three-night cruise to Bora Bora, Tahaa and Raiatea, and the reverse, with the main focus on experiencing uniquely Polynesian traditions, local crafts such as weaving, and visits to vanilla plantations and pearl farms. Dining experiences also include a private beach meal, a Polynesian dinner-show ashore. Haumana also features a panoramic lounge and oversized outdoor deck, a platform for nautical activities (e.g. kayaking, paddleboarding, snorkeling equipment etc.), and a sundeck.

Heiva I Tahiti “The Celebration of Life” – Heiva i Tahiti 137th edition, July 2018
For a few weeks each summer, song and dance troupes from across French Polynesia arrive in Tahiti for the annual Heiva festival. Many of these groups have been practicing several times a week during the 12-months leading up to the festival. Since its creation, the Heiva I Tahiti, has also been a showcase for traditional sports and games. The traditional sporting events are based on ancient athletic activities and include; a stone lifting competition, a javelin- throwing event, outrigger canoe races, a copra competition, and a fruit carrying competition. Visitors can also appreciate handicraft products made by the local artisans from the 5 archipelagos of The Islands of Tahiti. More than just a simple festival, Heiva I Tahiti has become the symbol of the Polynesian culture and an iconic event for a people proud of their heritage.
Billabong Pro Tahiti – August 2018
The professional surfers of the world compete on a water course with perfect waves in the famous pass from Hava’e to Teahupo’o. The best way to have an idea is to participate in this great surfing festival of the 7th stage of the world tour, while enjoying to see the wild site of Tahiti Iti (or Little Tahiti) with its mountains taking root on the water.
Hawaiki Nui Va’a (26th Edition) – November 2018
“Va’a” or outrigger canoe is the ultimate traditional sport. Over 100 outriggers will race from Huahine to Raiatea, Tahaa and to Bora Bora. The mythical arrival of the race at Matira Point in Bora Bora is unreal and definitely a once in a lifetime experience.
